The Eucharist

The Eucharist (also called Holy Communion) is central to our life as Anglican Christians. As liturgy it is what we do together in an interchange of loving expression between ourselves and God. We are not passive recipients of spiritual grace but active participants freely embracing God's call to be the presence of his Son Jesus Christ to the broken.

As the embodied grace of God, we are fed and nourished with the directive to go forward into the world "to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord." Book of Common Prayer, Pg. 366

Saturday Afternoon Eucharist

Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.  A relaxed, contemporary Eucharist held in the Parish Hall and lasting about 45 minutes, with music and liturgy projected on a screen.    It is our hope that the monthly service will eventually expand to twice a month, and perhaps in the future be a weekly service. We see this service as an outreach to families around Green Valley and Sahuarita who may find a Saturday service easier to attend than on Sunday morning, and to parishioners who have been asking for a service that is different than a Sunday morning.     Please check the schedule below for future dates.

Morning Prayer

In many times and places, daybreak has been a time of prayer. Jews prayed in their synagogues at sunrise as well as at other times each day. This Jewish pattern of prayer formed the basis of the Christian monastic Daily Office, with its prayers or "hours" at seven times in each day.  The Episcopal Church follows the example of these early monastic communities in providing for prayer throughout the day through "The Daily Office". Our prayer book contains four prayer services for use throughout the day:  Morning Prayer, Noonday Prayer, Evening Prayer and Compline.

The brief service of Morning Prayer (~20 minutes) is is the perfect way to begin the day. We recite psalms, read Scripture, and offer both collects (prayers) and private intercessions.  Morning Prayer may be led by either a member of the clergy or a lay person.

Evensong

Evensong is the Book of Common Prayer service (or Daily Office) of Evening Prayer with the addition of choral or, sometimes, congregational music. The structure of the service derives from the inflation of two monastic services (formally known as 'Offices'): Vespers - observed at 6 p.m., and Compline - observed at 9 p.m.

Evensong has long been considered one of the most beautiful services of the church, and the rich musical resources for it are almost inexhaustible. The magnificent language of the Prayer Book in combination with beautiful music of the Western tradition make Evensong one of the most treasured of liturgical experiences, and a true sanctification of space and time.

Blue Christmas
On the Fourth Sunday of Advent, we offer a service at 3 p.m. for those who experience the Christmas season as one filled with sadness, hardship, loneliness, and heaviness of heart, leaving one feeling blue.
This service creates space where we can acknowledge these difficult feelings, yet still remember the gif of the birth of Christ.
